The true origins of Abergavenny's town band lie shrouded in mystery, but what is know that there was certainly a band in the town before 1884. In fact the Abergavenny Chronicle reports on the Band participating in a procession through the town and up the Sugar Loaf Mountain playng from a horse drawn "Break" on Whit Monday 6th June 1881. An account of this can be found in "Abergavenny-Historic Market Town" by Chris Barber, Blorenge Books 2011; p229. There has been a band in Alford since the 1860s, when the town formed a Rifle Brigade Band, in common with many other towns and cities throughout the country. This early band later became the Excelsior Band until 1900, when it divided into two separate bands.

What started out as an idea over a cup of tea between friends has grown into Alverton Brass, a band which now boasts more than 20 musicians.

Alverton Brass’s first rehearsal took place at the Orchards Care Home in Brompton, near Northallerton, in October 2007, and since then the band has gone from strength to strength, meeting there every Thursday at 7.30pm.

Amesbury Town Band can trace its history back to the 1860s. Our musicians are all local enthusiasts from various walks of life, many of them learning their skills with the Band. Its current strength is approximately 30 and includes a thriving learners' section. New members of any age or musical ability are always welcome. Amington Band

The present Amington Band was re-formed in the latter part of the year 1917 by eight keen bandsmen led by the bandmaster Roland Davis. Amington had formerly had a band in conjunction with adjoining villages but over a period of years this had disbanded. Amington was then a small village in the county of North Warwickshire, but now falls within the boundaries of Tamworth. The village is now almost unrecognisable to how it looked in the year the band was formed.

Ammanford Silver Band

The first band was formed in the 1850s at the Pontaman Chemical Works as a Drum and Fife Band, developing later in 1881 to the Betws Brass Band, becoming the Ammanford Urban District Silver Band on the grant of urban status in 1903. In the 1920s its title was again changed to Ammanford Silver Band. The band in its early days took an active part in temperance campaigns.

Anglia Fellowship Band

In recent years the band has been successful in moving to the 21st Century, by launching their website and receiving sponsorship from APD, who has provided the band with new fleece lined water proof jackets among other things, therefore the bands name was changed to Annan Town (APD) Band.

Arbroath Instrumental Band

The Arbroath Instrumental Band was formed in 1893 and has provided the town with a very strong band ever since. Today it is in much demand in Arbroath and the surrounding area, providing music of a very high standard for concerts, galas, charity events and church services. In the past the band benefited from a new set of instruments purchased with the help of a grant form the National Lottery. More recent funding has been from the proceeds of performances and generosity of Arbroath and local town’s people.

Armthorpe Elmfield Band

The Band was formed in 1964 with two learners and six instruments, and is affiliated to the Doncaster Youth Service. Apart from this help which brings rehearsal facilities, the Band is entirely self supporting. The band committee have raised income through concerts and the usual money raising activities. They have also received much needed Lottery Money from the Arts Council of England and Wales. All of the instruments you see this evening have been purchased with this money. There are youngsters at various stages, in both the Senior and Junior Bands.

Arnfield Brass of Tintwistle was formed in 2001 & currently practice every Wednesday evening from 8.00pm untill 10.00pm just over the bridge at Hadfield Consevative Club.

The band takes pride in their close relationship with all of the local community organisations. They provide a wide range of music to suit all tastes which makes a very entertaining programme. This has gained the band an excellent reputation within the area.

The Brighouse and Rastrick Band is regarded by many as the best and most consistent ‘public subscription band’ in the world. In its time the majority of premier band championships have been held by ‘Briggus’ whilst the band has also attracted a formidable reputation for highly entertaining concerts for both the general public and brass band connoisseur.

The band was formed over 125 years ago through public donations given by the townsfolk of the adjacent villages of Brighouse and Rastrick that face each other across the River Calder in West Yorkshire, England.Today, it still continues to be supported through public subscriptions and its own fund raising efforts. Its amateur members traditionally pride themselves on being financially independent, never having been beholden to any commercial interest, yet they are still regarded as one of the ‘elite’ on the contest and concert platforms.

Ashgrove Brass Band and C.W.A. have amalgamated and are now be known as Carrick With Ashgrove Brass (C.W.A. Brass). The band is based in the town of Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland.

Under the baton of Mr. Frank Moore they are an enthusiastic bunch who play regularly at engagements throughout the summer months and give a number of winter concerts. The band competed in their first contest in a long time this year and are definitely looking forward to entering a lot more.

We rehearse each Thursday evening in the Heritage Centre, Liskeard Road, Callington, the Training Band 6.15-7.15pm, Main Band 7.30-9.30pm. The Hillingdon Band started back at the end of the 19th Century as the Botwell Brotherhood Band. Around the turn of the Century, the name was changed to the Uxbridge and Hillingdon Band and by 1929 it was known as the Hayes Silver Band. The name changed again to the Hayes and Harlington band before the present name was adopted on the formation of the London borough of Hillingdon. After re-locating to Denham following the closure of the factory where they practiced the band became Denham Brass

Felison Brass is a 4th section Dutch Brass Band and consists of 30 selected brass musicians and percussionists. Felison Brass is led by the conductor Alexander Zwaan and often plays on different stages in wide area of Velsen. Velsen is a small village near Amsterdam.

Florence Brass

Florence Brass is a friendly non-contesting brass band. We are very privileged to have the support of Florence Colliery Sports and Social Club and we rehearse in their main Concert Room each Monday, 7.45pm - 9.45 pm. Bar facilities are available. The Club is situated in Lightwood Road, Longton (in fact on the site of the old Florence Colliery).

The Band plays a number of engagements each year which include Park Bandstand jobs in the summer; Village Fetes and Carnivals; full indoor concerts; Christmas events and Private Functions (Weddings, Christenings etc).

The band plays a wide range of music including traditional brass band, classical, film themes, big band etc.

We always welcome new players both experienced and beginners. Uniforms are provided, and instruments where necessary.

Flowers Band

The Flowers Band, based in Gloucester, is now in its 40th year. It was formed as a result of the disbandment of the Royal Gloucester Hussars (Territorial Army) Brass Band. After negotiation with the Ministry of Defence, the instruments were purchased and most of the former R.G.H. bandsmen, together with other local players, formed the City of Gloucester Band. Since then the band has had a variety of sponsors including Whitbread in the Community and Flowers Brewery. Much success was gained under the 'Flowers' name in the contest field. The band rose rapidly up the Championship Section ladder in 1986 where it has since established itself in the top 20 of the Brass Band World Rankings table.

Freckleton is a small village based in between Preston and Blackpool in Lancashire and there has been a brass band in the village since the latter part of the nineteenth century. The bands headquarters, still to this day, has been at the rear of The Coach & Horses Public House, based in the centre of the village.

Gweek Silver Band

Just 18 months ago Gweek Silver Band was down to just 6 players and close to closing the bandroom door for the last time. It is one of the great banding stories of the area that Gweek band clawed its way back from the brink and now has a full band and a very bright future under its musical director Tony Richards.

Hade Edge Band

Hade Edge Band is the youngest of the five 'valley bands' Hepworth, Hinchcliffe Mill, Holme Silver, Meltham and Meltham Mills, and Hade Edge. It was formed in July 1908 by a Sunday School committee of brass band enthusiasts, who wished to revive the movement in the district after the demise of the Old Moss band a few years previously. Instruments were collected from ex-members of the Old Moss Band and rehearsals started under their first conductor, Allen Swallow.

Harworth has for many years enjoyed having it's own brass band which over the years may have changed it's name but has always had a family feel about it. Most of our players are local with a genuine affection for the band and it's status within the village.

In 1998 the band were crowned the Regional Champions of Section 3 and went on to represent the area at the National Finals at Harrogate. The band has also held many high class Celebrity Concerts with top artists from around the country as their guests (Don Lusher, Stephen Mead, and The Best of British Jazz).

The Heathfield Silver Band is a friendly village band that’s been in existence since 1888, we enjoy performing at a variety of local & regional events. We can be seen at many of the Carnival processions that take place across our region including the infamous Lewes bonfire celebrations on November 5th.

We have our own band room and rehearse on Tuesday evenings between 7.30pm & 9.30pm. We also have our training band that rehearses between 6.30 & 7.15 on Tuesday evenings.

We're a typical non-contesting traditional brass band. We practice every Wednesday evening and take part in a variety of engagements throughout the year, in and around Honiton. We pride ourselves on being friendly and welcoming and are always looking for new members.

The Band was originally formed in 1971 as the Coalville Band, with 3 of the founder members still playing in the band today, Dave Wright, Barry Smith and Tony Taylor. With escalating costs it was necessary to find sponsorship and in 1977 a local company, Ibstock Building Products Ltd. Came forward and decided to give the band the sponsorship it needed, the band became known as the Ibstock Building Products Band. In March 2000 the company took the decision to change its name to Ibstock Brick Ltd. And once again that meant a change of name for the band, giving it its name today, The Ibstock Brick Brass Band

Ifton Band Oswestry aim is to promote the enjoyment of brass band music both through playing and listening. Founded in 1916 the band became a major force competing in numerous competitions finally reaching section one in the 1990's. Unfortunately the membership dwindled to just six junior members in the mid 90's and almost folded. Through the efforts of the committee and parents the band has been slowly rebuilt through focussing on the younger members of the band. Currently the band membership stands at around 20 players consisting mainly of family members.

Indian Queens Band is an important part of the areas traditions and musical heritage. A respected band, it was founded in 1856 by local man Martin Strongman Kessell, who as well as being a well known musician worked for the Trelissick Estate as a game-keeper.
Martin was the first of many Kessells associated with the band and his great-great-nephew Ivan was president of the band in 1981 when the band celebrated it’s 125th anniversary.
There have been many highlights in the history of the Band. These include winning the ‘B’ section at the West Of England Bandsman’s Festival held in the village of Bugle 11 times (1912, 1913, 1938, 1953, 1956, 1960, 1961, 1964, 1965 and 1968) and competing at Crystal Palace in 1929. When it came 8th out of 23 bands.

Kippax has a history in brass banding dating back to the early 1800's. Closely linked to the mining industry, the band had mining connections until as recently as the closure of the Selby Coalfield in the early 2000’s. It is still classed as a mineworkers band.
The Band is also closely connected to the local community who have, over the years, provided many players past and present. The band also provides its services to the community through parades, Church services and Council organised events.

Loxley Silver Band is a Sheffield-based brass band originally established way back in 1889; now based in Stannington, near Loxley, North Sheffield, the band continues to have a strong following to this day. Loxley is a local community brass band with a friendly family atmosphere, with players ranging from 10-80 years! The Band play various local events all over the Sheffield area such as garden parties, concerts, galas etc. throughout the year and play local carols and festive tunes at a variety of venues and public houses during December.

As well as having a senior band that rehearses twice a week, Loxley also has a training band that rehearse on a Thursday evening from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at our band room in Stannington; new members are always welcome for the main band or training band (some instruments may be available to loan) including those who would like the opportunity to ‘restart’.

Northallerton Silver Band can trace it's roots back to 1793 although back then it would not have looked or sounded anything like the popular band that we see today. John was at the time the Musical Director of the Hampshire County Youth Bands and he was aware that many of his students were leaving the organisation without any where else to play in the local Winchester area. Phoenix Brass considers itself a family band with numerous spousal, parental and sibling relationships. Renfrew Burgh Band is a 3rd section band affilliated to the Scottish Brass Band Association.
Formed in 1911, Renfrew Burgh Band is one of the few bands still playing in the Renfrewshire area.
The band rehearses weekly and performs at local gala days, churches and ceremonies such as the Remembrance Day Service. We also give regular concerts and participate in brass band contests throughout the country.

The West Somerset Brass Band is a friendly 4th section band based in Watchet, but serving the whole of West Somerset. Our aim is to teach and perform music in the local community. The West Yorkshire Police Band is primarily a concert band, performing for the entertainment of the community in West Yorkshire. Concert programmes are varied and cater for all tastes. The Band has performed at many venues in West Yorkshire, and throughout the UK. The Band has also undertaken foreign trips, including travelling to Holland to perform at the famous Nijmegen Marches. The band were honoured by being invited to play at a memorial event marking the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 atrocity in New York 25 members of the band played at the site of the
British Memorial Garden, Hanover Square in Manhattan which also featured music from the choir of St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle and the New York Scottish Pipes and Drums Band. And also in Long Valley, New Jersey for the local community and newcomers group who kindly provided members of the band with accommodation during the stay.

The band is a traditional amateur brass band consisting of around 25 players from all walks of life - including accountants, computer experts, secretaries and even prison officers (yes, we have 2!). We meet for rehearsals twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 8pm – 10pm, at our bandroom situated in the hall behind Church Road Methodist church in Upper Church Road, Weston super Mare, BS23 2DX. Parking can be a problem as it is a residential area, but we are very lucky to have sole use of the hall, so can leave everything set up. Access is via the path to the left hand side of the church. It is on an incline with a few steps at the top. Those of us with creaky knees and hips have been known to wish it was on the flat! The pub for a post-rehearsal thirst-quench is just a few yards away down the road!

The Wingates story has had its ups and downs. The band - one of the oldest and most famous brass bands in the band movement is based in the village of Westhoughton near Bolton, Lancashire.
Wingates Band was formed in 1873 by the members of the Bible Class of Wingates Independent Methodist Church in Westhoughton, in response to a challenge thrown down by the members of the Westhoughton Old Band, which had existed since 1858, to develop brass band music in the region.
